About Grit & Altitude Adventures

Grit & Altitude Adventures was built on the belief that meaningful challenge changes people.

Our story began in Afghanistan in 2003. While deployed with the military, our founders were struck not only by the beauty of the landscape and richness of the culture, but also by the clarity that comes from operating far outside of normal life. In harsh environments and uncertain situations, there was a sense of purpose, perspective, and connection that stayed long after the deployment ended.

Years later, in 2016 that experience became the foundation for Off Trail Odysseys. We operated as OTO until 2026 when we rebranded to Grit & Altitude Adventures.

We exist to create transformative journeys for veterans and civilians alike—expeditions that push people beyond routine, reconnect them with themselves, and remind them they are capable of far more than they realize.

Adventure has the ability to strip life back to what matters.

When people step outside their comfort zone—physically, mentally, and emotionally—they often discover strengths that modern life rarely asks them to use. Confidence returns. Perspective shifts. Connections deepen. What once felt intimidating becomes achievable.

We built Grit & Altitude Adventures differently.

Every Grit & Altitude Adventures guide holds the civilian or military qualifications appropriate to the environments they lead in, but technical skill alone is not enough to represent this brand.

Our guides must also be compassionate, adaptable, grounded, and genuinely enjoyable to be around. They lead quietly, help without ego, and understand when to support, when to challenge, and when to simply let the experience speak for itself.

The Environments We Seek

We operate globally across austere, remote, and unique environments—from high mountains to culturally immersive regions far removed from routine life.

Some expeditions are physically demanding. Others are mentally demanding. Most are both.

Challenge, however, is deeply personal. Our role is not to force people beyond their limits, but to help them safely and confidently expand what they believe those limits are.
